@ortwin: Quite sure he's filthy rich, but more to the point, listen to his huge hit "Margaritaville". He eventually made a career out of being a Carribean island boozer/stoner.

Looked at the video, looked up the lyrics, still I don't get it. Must be something I can't pick up having a different mother tongue and somewhat different cultural background.
The word "poptop" appears in the lyrics, I thought that might be something related to spinning. An  image search for it brought this up:

So maybe not...
But do you remember how we could get that ring spinning and flying by using that springy part as a starter? Almost like the wind up starter I showed recently.  Couldn't find a video on YouTube of what I mean. Much less an old school can lid to give you the performance.

Actually the trick won't work with the first lid shown here, that little groove encircled in the second picture is essential.

I would be curious to see that. That's not something I ever tried.
Yes, the lyrics refer to that type of poptop. You could step on one at the beach and cut your foot.

But we have the Pop's Top:

And one of the forum members is poptop (two-time US National Champ, Brian Caster).

Valiant effort! You write English better than most Americans, but there could be a cultltural component. The most likely explanation, however, is that it mine wasn't a good joke to begin with.

If you have one of those, just tell me, I think I can teach you doing it.

It looks perfect. But I would not want anybody to pay the high shipping fees for this cheap trick. Do you have one like that already?

I don't have one. Unfortunately, shipping is more than double the cost of the $2 steel can. Finding one with the tab still on is probably not that easy.

I'm guessing it has to be an old steel can and an aluminum can would not work.

I think aluminum can can work fine.
In the meantime I thought about it and came to the conclusion, that it should also work with the  lid of a regular can of tuna fish or something. At least the principle will become clear: pull the lid off, separate the ring from the actual lid. If there is none, make a little indentation/groove similar to the one I showed in the picture before. Hold the lid in one hand, the ring the other. Push the edge of the lid into that groove. Pull the ring while holding the lid firm so that it bends a bit. Let the ring go. What will happen? Make a video and show us please!
