Cuper found this German ad from exactly 100 years ago (May 31st, 1923):



Two of the boys have whips and you can see the whip top in the left hand of the one in the foreground.

The handwriting above the boy pointing at the wall says (thanks Ortwin) "my older brother also smokes [that brand of cigarette] (rauch auch mein grosser Bruder). It's clearly an ad directed at kids!

The newspaper with that add is available on German eBay. Maybe it is only that page, I am not sure. Something close to 30 euro.
