I've had that happen if I have the top too low in my hand.  Where the button end of the string goes between your fingers needs to be below the wrap of the string on the top.

Thank you for the great tips! I sure try it out  :)
It worked once with my small wooden top,  then with a bigger top.
So, I did it once,  but I need to get the hang of it. That was at hours of practice,  and I forgot how I did it.
I try again, with the very great advice I got from you guys  :)
When I can throw a boomerang,  I sure let you all know !

I'm not sure if I mentioned it, but it took me forever to learn boomerang. Don't give up.
Do learn skyrocket first.  The feeling of a top spinning in your hand will keep you hooked.

My Dad grew up in Oklahoma, making there own toys. He told me they did split tops while fighting. I love the yo - yo so when he threw a top and landed in a bottle cap - then Fliped to the palm I was interested. I tried it - failed and gave up. My Dad passed away many years ago. All I can say is Dad, I’m making the BEST trick fighters in the WORLD, and loving it.
