I spent a long time making a top and a video.

Check it out!

Wow!!!  That is quite amazing.  I watched most of the video but most especially all of the end.  It was quite interesting.  I will watch all of it later.  Good work.  Hope your thumb heals quickly.

Great video!  8) Lots of good tips and, for a change, it was a turning video with some drama too!  >:D
Even if you didn't get the breakage on camera, there was the incertitude of running out of wall thickness and even blood!

It seems to me that the crazy boomerang was not due to balance mostly, but to the ball shape (equal longitudinal and transversal moments of inertia). The same problem that the Short Circuit has with the metal tip. That's why putting weight at the bottom, but centered, got rid of it.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

I can’t Waite to watch it all tonight. A segmented top is stronger and more beautiful.

I'm calling it a success, too. Truly elegant visually. Agree with ta0 about the dynamics.

When laying out layers of segments of woods of different densities and colors, you could get some interesting asymmetric visuals without losing balance by applying the centrifuge rule recently posted by ta0.
