Hey guys. So for some reason today I wanted to twist some string ( I'm still using my makeshift way I was using before ) and the problem I seem to have it that my string isn't twisted strong enough. So I made this string that's a touch thiner than spintastic large ( rougly 72 inch ) needed to throw the top upright on the floor ) But If I don't wind it very very thight ( using the columbian tech I've been seeing in every video of columbian tops ) the string will just snag or make a missthrow... In opposition, the spintastic large I can wind it so so so loose and it still works very well on the throw. My home made string is actually pretty good once the top is started... I was able to do all my tricks and more with it...

So except bulding the neffy string twister, has anyone any recommendation on how to make my string thighter without having problem when I ply it together ?

Thanks for the help

When I make string I take it to the limit, I want tight string. I make a lot of string -- your string is not stunning. For stunning you need to make the Apache weave.

That is quite nice, in spite of what Cecil says.  Especially, since you twisted it in your "makeshift way".

I have been using the K'Neffy string twister.  It can't be beat for getting a good tight twist.  I'm not by any means a good top spinner, but it's amazing the difference a fresh string can make.

That's a nice looking string

Yeah. If I wrap the string thigh on the top it just work fine (better than my old spintastics string).. I'll see if I can twist harder. I probably will end up ordering what it takes to do a Neffy string maker!

Don't mind Cecil....he's just old (like I am), and apparently likes to rain on other people's parades.  If it isn't big, and if it doesn't fight, and if it doesn't do a double body corkscrew....well then, it just isn't worth posting about.   ;)

Nice string, by the way!!

So I decided to try again today. Did what Cecil ORDERED ME TO DO!!!

My 2 hook at 80 inch appart : twisted the string until my hook was at 242 inch BUT SOO SOO SOO THIGH... and as the star alligned I was able to fold it without loosing any tention anywere... Heres the result :

It's thighter than a spintastic large... plays wonderfully. This one was 26 cotton thread twisted... Resulting string feel like rougly 73-74", a joy to play outside... lasso from boomerang & regens are significantly harder, slack has to be undercontrol. I did shorten it to 64" which is what I use inside and works as well as my Spintastic.

So in the end it IS possible to make string the makeshift way! =)

Mail man is a very WISE MAN. But can he handle a fighting top. Or does he just sit around and blow dandelions? If any one wants to fight with tops you better get with it ---- because I'll be DEAD SOON.

So, I'm about to abandon... I did 4 string today and they all are not that great... I used crochet string size 10. 3x4ply and the size of the string is perfect but I did all different tention and they all have the same problem. The top jump out of the string when thrown not lightly. I tried wrapping them very thigh and very light and they all have the same problem... I can throw as hard as I can with spintastic large string...

Anyone has any idea... I'll just end up buying spintastic string in bulk and forget about making string, :-(

Can it be the metal finish of the QSH that give me trouble. Because it seem that my jumbo string seem to work fine ( with no misthrow whatsoever ) with my 3d printed top ...

Strings have arrived today!!! They looks amazing. They feel amazing in the hand but they are otherwordly when it comes to playing with the tops... They are not too stiff nor too loose, I haven't had ANY misthrow due to string problem... Well now it's settled, when I need new strings. I need to buy a Neffy string maker!!!

Thanks to that person for now!!! I don't know if he wants to be mentionned so that why I'm keeping generic. If I have consent, I'd love to post a pic with my tops wrapped with the strings =)

Cheers,
