Not sure what the time frame was but yeah I've seen a number of colored tips. I think Walter Watts has a hole milk carton full of them.

Are the tips made of the same plastic as the tops?  Were they separate and replaceable, or part of the body of the top?

Pretty sure they have been replaceable and the same size and shape in all the Imperials.  The plastic seems harder than the ABS plastic that the bodies are usually made of.
