Interestingly enough, last night we went on a home tour of McPherson Town. It is a small historic section of Dayton just north of the river (Great Miami). Many of the homes were built in the 1890's and struggled to survive the big 1913 flood. It is a very nice community. When we go on these tours we always get new ideas for our 1862 historic home.
One of the homes is owned by a Jewish couple. They had dozens of menorahs around the house. And there, in one room, was a menorah surrounded by a number of dreidels!!! I looked at my wife and she looked at me......then she shook her head. What? How can one walk by all these dreidels without giving at least one a spin. Against her best wishes, I picked one up and gave it a very well aimed spin. I looked at her as if to say "nothing is broken" and we went on our way.
Since we come back with lots of ideas for our house (mostly her ideas), this year I have an idea to share. Just like that nice home in McPherson Town shouldn't we have our dreidels out on display during Hanukkah. Even if it for just a few days!?!?!
