Trapeze for dummies (me)
« on: May 22, 2019, 07:42:04 PM »

Can anyone explain the secret to dropping a top forward into a trapeze mount, like in the beginning of the trick Cable Car? I can do it sometimes, but not with the smoothness or force that it should have. I think I am just letting it almost wobble off on to the string.

I'm going to try to give you some advice! You need to do the inverse of stabilizing the top on your hand. When the top lean enough, you put the top on the string. Then let it fall, and as it falls you want to make it travel in space towards the crown just enough so that it ends up horizontal at the bottom of the string!

I'm not sure this was helpful but I'm sure others will have other tricks!!!
Keep spinnin'

If you are right handed and the top is spinning (ccw) on your right hand, just move the hand relatively fast towards your left. That should tilt the top so you can drop it into the string.
Pulpowsky called that trick Mexican Drop (Caída Mejicana) and stuck.

Thank you both, that makes sense. I was trying to get the feel for it and going through the motions, but going very slowly, and the top didn’t want to cooperate. I can see that the motion is much faster when I watch now.
Thanks again, much to practice on my lunch break today!
