Road trip....to Canada, eh?!
« on: October 07, 2016, 07:04:28 PM »

Yesterday, David (butterfingers on the forum) and I had the pleasure of making a day trip to Toronto....to meet and throw tops with....Jack!  We've talked about such a trip for a long time, and finally made it happen.

We had a wonderful trip on a beautiful day, and met Jack at noon in a park-like area in the city.  We got along like old friends from the start, and spent the next five hours talking and throwing tops.  Jack was kind enough to share his skill and expertise, and to try to coach us through some of the problems we've been fighting.  We both feel as though we learned lots, even though it was only one session.

Jack also surprised us both with goodie bags, including supplies of his hand-made top string, in a rainbow of colors.  Thanks again, Jack!  We'll put it to good use!

I think I can speak for both of us when I say that we had a GREAT time.  We got home late, but happy, and both of us had to work all day today.  We hope to do it again sometime, if Jack will have us.

What more could we ask for, other than to meet up with other forum members to throw tops, eh?   ;)

I am glad that all worked out!  Sounds like a great day and a great time.

How long did it take you to drive there?

About three and a half hours to get there.  It was considerably longer going home, due to rush hour traffic....

So, Jack really exists?  ;D
Is this the first time that Jack meets other spintop players in person?

Yes, Jack actually exists!  And yes, I believe it was his first meet up with other spin top players (other than his brother)....

Naughty Charlemagne!!!  Here are some words from that song....

Who is it who had this crazy idea to invent school?
Who had this idea to invent school out of the blue?

It's this naughty Charlemagne.  Naughty Charlemagne.

allow me to start by saying that mailman and butterfingers i think are 2 of the nicest fellows you could hope to meet eh.
we throwed tops for longer than i think ive ever done continusly lol, i may be younger but those boys out did me on stamina  ;D
nearly killed myself with the s.s shawn on my way over to the meetup  ;)
i had the privilege of throwing so many of there tops that they were awsome enough to bring along with them, including a few johnm tops :o never thought id ever see so many johnm tops  ;D, good grief they spin so smooth eh
i was very surprised at the number of people that stopped to talk to us about tops, and butterfingers showed a cpl of people how to throw and even ended up giving a few away  ;D
probably should have took some vids/pics but hey actually living it was more important than documenting it eh  ;)
a drunk fella came wondering over, apparently hed had his diabolos jacked the night before down at dundas. he really was quite annoying but it did not dampen our spirits dammit!!! he left after awhile anyway ;D
oh and goodies were bestowed upon me aswell which i will gather together in a bit and relate more about that but i must say jneff....you sir are a awesome and generous cookie  :o and butterfingers and mailman thank you again guys, the loot was like a delicious cookie that will be cherished for years to come  ;)

the both of them i must say have a very solid base for what im sure is going to be a very skilled spintop future eh  :o
i feel i should have put on a better show for them but it was so exciting seeing all those tops and getting to talk to people in person who really understand topspinning......and knitting  ;D
note to self: be more careful about which string goes with which tops when dealing with other peoples inventories lol sorry guys  ;D
i usually just use whatever strings at hand and then last night i realized what id done to your tops  :P
im sure other things ive missed will come to me and ill post as they do.
for me this meetup was one of the biggest highlights in the last few years for me eh.
thanks alot for comin up here guys, i had a blast and you guys will always have an open invitation to throw tops and ask questions anytime  you want eh ;D

No worries, Jack, about mixing up the top strings.  I just sorted them out at the end, and all is right in my OCD world once more!

I'm already looking forward to being able to get together again, and (hopefully) show you how I've progressed....
