Bill: Is there a way to lock the gyro rotor's spin axis in a vertical orientation in order to simplify the spin rate measurement?

Jeremy, it was pretty easy to measure the spin rate as you suggested. I posted the curves here earlier.

Yes, I would expect the bearing to have more friction that a pointy tip.

PS: I'm leaving Sunday for the Cremona festival, so I won't be able to analyze the data.
