Did I come up with something?
« on: February 04, 2014, 08:22:09 PM »

I've been spinning a ton since worlds and think I may have finally come up with something novel. Did I? That little (as we would say in the world of yoyoing) chopstick maneuver with the non-throw hand. Just curious.  :)

It looks new to me.  But probably because I am not a yo-yo player I cannot tell exactly what the chopstick does. A slow mo may help.

It is wonderful that you are creating new stuff.

A chopstick is a mount/trick element that involves the yoyo landing on a string length extended between two fingers (typically the thumb and forefinger), but it also opens up other mounts and string hit possibilites - some of which I can see being usable for spin top, but my spin top skills just aren't yet up to the task.  :) I'll work on it and post a video of it (including slowmo) once I have something to show.

Thanks for watching guys!

I like it.  Thanks for working on it and thanks for posting.  You look so smooth with your movements.  You have, indeed, come a long way since worlds!

I wish I could do that. But I can do that with pots and pans.

Nifty little non-throw hand snag!  I see some possible variations...   >:D

Cool! I'd love to see what someone with some skill can do with it.

Here's an example of a variant (with the thumb wrap to lock the mount) that could be made into a basic repeater:

But you could also pull down one of the string elements from the mount to do other stuff that's more complex than what I'm yet capable of. Anywho, thanks for the feedback everyone.

Thanks for the video, now it is clear what you are doing.

Boyd Seth used to try a trick in which he threw the top from one hand to the other (which was stationary) and tried to catch it with the string between two fingers (I am not sure if he was ever successful on stage).   I guess it does has some similarities to one-hand lasso and one-hand trapeze. But those are always on the throwing hand, so it is not the same.

Nice job!  I'm always impressed by players that have great control over both hands.

one-hand trapeze. But those are always on the throwing hand, so it is not the same.

ta0's comment reminded me of Daveid's non-dominant hand trapeze catches shown here at about 1:20.  It is different because he has moved the button to the non-dominant hand.

and in this one again with the button in the non-dominant hand.

It makes me think that you snap starting, doubly coordinated players should tie a button on the other end (instead of a ring for some of you) of the string and try something.

Also probably more related is ta0's "Tip Swap" from his double tip video at 1:20
