I saw last year the Duncan show at Downtown Disney (it coincided with worlds). Takeshi in fact did showcase the top.  The show had different players from the Duncan world team demoing the different styles of yo-yoing.  Guess who was the only one with a line of kids after the show: it was Takeshi placing the top on their hands!

The site still shows just one competitor registered (in 1A) . . .

I really need to learn to do this more consistently.  Kids go nuts when you put a top in their hand. Reactions range from "it hurts" to "it feels funny" to uncontrollable giggles. learning to drop a top from my hand to a hand one fourth my size has proven to be a challenge.

I hope this event went well.  Has anyone heard anything about it?  I went to the website and could not find much on the results.

Plenty of spintop demos given throughout the weekend by Takeshi. He did them on the main stage at Downtown Disney during their 4x nightly demos, as well as at least once or twice on stage at the contest venue.

They sell spintops at their cart as well, not sure how often then demo them there throughout the year.

Last I checked, Augie and Brandon didn't have them up on the official site yet.

Jack, to answer your question, as a judge at Nationals (since 1999) and Worlds (since 2000) until several years ago, each year we would marvel at the fact that the bar had been raised to a new level. Each year the players would build on what they had seen others do the year before. It was an amazing thing to see what they would come up with. What a wonderful thing to watch from up close and personal.
