spinning top patent for diabolo tip??
« on: February 22, 2013, 10:05:32 PM »

The linked spinning top patent from 1952 emphasises the tip shape for "skilled performances or tricks".  The 'neck' is formed at the intersection of the 'top body' and 'chin' and there is no 'shoulder' portion of the metal inserted tip but the geometry looks like the modern preferred shape.

Mr. Kondrath gives a good description of regenerative tricks.  His use of the phrase "the user soon learns..."  makes me feel like a klutz. :-). He must have been a good player.
I find it interesting that nearly every modern top tip has a shoulder as part of the tip.  In this patent the shoulder is part of the body of the top. This minor difference allowed Duncan to make their tips without needing to pay Mr. Kondrath.
Thanks Johnm for the interesting post
