Very nice finger top, Eric!  And very impressive spin! I loved it that you were surprised yourself and exclaimed wow at the end!
Was it the top or the wrist?  ;D

I had considered making one out of coins, but I don't have any as cool as your 2 pounds.

I'll take the 10 points handicap, it makes it more challenging . . .  ;D ;D

That was last Sunday but Jim moved it to yesterday:
Quote
in order to give time to more entries , the deadline for the contest is delayed it will end Sunday Oct 9th
So I guess, it has now officially ended and the judges have to score the tops.

I am surprised there were so few entries but I am guessing the first 3 entries scared the rest (you know who I am talking about, all you spintop modders and turners . . .  :-X )  I was going to try something at the last moment but other things came up. I could perhaps still do it if there is a "just for the pride" deadline with no prizes.

Congratulations to all, and thank you Jim for organizing this it was fun. I cant wait for my prize. Now to ask for the next competition can the measurements be bumped up to 1 1/2x 1 1/2 inches? I have a few really good ideas.

I have my doubts Jim would want to organize another finger top making contest if we had so few participants . . . (just my guess).

I got about 4:40 with my ugly top this morning  ;D Yesterday late at night after I finished it, my record was 3:30, so getting the launch just right is critical. I still need to finish the top and bottom surfaces to decrease drag and try to better balance it. Hopefully, I'll post my post-deadline top (hey, I went to nats!) in the next couple of days.  Oh, and after all, it is not that ugly in my humble (and not so objective) opinion, in a sort of techno way  ;)

Congrats to the three winners!!!  ;D

I wasn't able to find the time to join in, after all...  :(

Oh well, I guess it'll be next time!
I doubt I could have made anything good enough to stand up to the tops I've seen in here tho!

Well done, guys! And Well done Jim for organizing it!

trompillo:  Not sure you got your question answered.  Chico is the city in Northern California where the US National Yo-Yo Contest is held the first weekend in October each year since 1993.  Several years ago they included the US National Spin Top Contest.  So US Nats, Chico, etc. refers to the same thing.

hi all

thanx for the feedback

more comments on the results, notes taken when we discussed the scores

Black Rose is a beautiful combination of materials , it's an Earthy Top
she lives in the woods , she smells of ancient wax , she can feel and adjust to the ambient temperature
Rani Gold evokes bollywood movies and craftship : the 28 pearls for years of passion and the evaporated structure reminds us of a tradition in sword handles , in Tolède and other cities in Spain
Four Pounder is more a conceptual project: the material used , almost profaning part of a patrimony , gives a rebel overtone to the top.....it also questions us on the law of evolution:is the ape really looking at the shaft , or is it Darwin who stares back after over 3 minutes of spin time ?

all in all i've found this contest quite enriching
and despite the relative low number of entries
i intend to do it again in the near future 8) 8) 8)

What a great line thanks Jim. I have a question I live in "Coeur d'Alene" and there has been a debate about what it means since I was a kid what is the literal translation?
