WallyWood
« on: April 18, 2011, 08:43:01 PM »

Since I cant seam to win one of the INEPTT tops from the masters (I know I'm not alone on that point), I will just slink down to my shop and make some fresh sawdust to soak up my tears of loss  :'( . Poor little chunk of walnut feeling all forgotten and alone, Let's see what we can do here, OK that's better. Come on don't be shy I'm sure everyone would like to meet you. Come on now you look and feel better and well I feel better, Lets venture out of the shop now. OK all meet Wally!

Wally is from a solid piece of walnut delerin tip (fixed) with a stainless rod for reinforcement. Hollowed out and plays great after a substantial amount of funtac to set it right.

And up against a BK for scale ;)

I looks like the tip has the central rod reinforcement.  The top looks great and very playable.  I guess I'll meet it in person next month  ;)

Sweet!  Bold shape, nice and tall, fun size.  A master you will soon be if not already.  I was just working on a pool ball top to copy your 7 ball idea, where most of the ball is low rather than high.  When you start inspiring others, mastery must be close  ;D

More raffle tops to come, best of luck to evabodies!

Hello Wally. You are looking very fine. You have a very styling string. I must give you a spin some day soon if Joe doesn't mind.

I feel your pain about the top. That looks like a good substitute. One of these days I will get my hands on a good lathe set up.

Nice work Joe!  I like the way you oriented the grain diagonally.

I've got a nice chunk of Claro Walnut that wants to be a top someday...

Thanks for all of the kind words guys. I've been playing Wally pretty much nonstop, don't worry I stop to eat, work, and hone my battletop skills  ;) . But seriously I really like the way this top plays, great at slower speeds, an awesome walker (round the neck back and fourth you call it) it weighs in at 90 grams and is roughly 4" high by 3" wide. The stain is a little dark and does hide the grain a bit but my best effort in wood with custom tip to date. I hope to do more in the future.
