Hello folks,

I have problems with boomerang , with my wooden tops.
Any other lighter tops work very well.
The thing is,  the wooden ones are precious to me,  and I am determined to boomerang them.
Looked up on youtube too,  Dazzling Dave gave me the tip to shorten the string a little.
It seems to work a little!  But that's why I'm here,  to learn and have fun  .
I made a little video about my fails.  Only the people with the link can see it.
Can you guys help me?  What am I doing wrong?

Can you practice outside? Because you need to pull back harder. Try pulling back much harder (outside) then dial it back.
Also, as a safety note, pull back the opposite of your throw, your are pulling up a little bit higher, you might catch it in the head if you are not careful!

Yep... You don't pull back hard enough... Depending on the weight of the top, I'd go with a bowling ball approach. ( shorten a bit the string then throw like a bowling ball ) ... I find it generally easier to get it to come back... I did this video a long time ago :

It's cold outside,  but I can practice in my garage.
The video of yours is helpful, Paxl ! I actually have it on my playlist for learning to throw a top.
I sure test the 'throw like a bowling ball ' technique 
 I already shorten the string,  so far no problem with spinning.
Sure to keep it safe,  it's a heavy one!

I would suggest starting with a more gentle forward motion, and start the pull back sooner.  You should be pulling up as well as back.

Today I tested out the technique from Paxl.  "Throw like a bowling ball ".
After a few times, I managed to boomerang it!  Just once , but I found it quite amazing!   
I indeed need to throw it gently,  I worked that out

Did it again,  Today   
I worked out a way to throw the top,  with my left hand. (I'm left handed )
With right-hand players,  I noticed,  the tip is pointing inwards to the body.
With my left handed play,  the tip is pointing out when I throw.
I needed to adjust my technique. Using the technique Paxl and Dazzling Dave use,with heavy tops.
 Throw like a bowling ball.
I turn my wrist just a little, to the inside,  when I throw my top.

That did it for me 
Still need to master it , but I did it twice already!

Is how you adjust for too long or too short string. play with the string length and you can change that angle...
As far as I have noticed, it's also a repeating pattern, meaning there are multiple string length that will allow you to throw at a certain angle... but at the "right" lenght, you'll be able to throw it VERY VERY hard and it won't fly off the string...

If I had the courage, this is worth a long youtube video with demo and examples...
At somepoint, you'll get to instinctivly be able to correct AS the throw is happening.. rendering the string lenght a suggestion ( baring it's not too short )

It took me all day to do a boomerang with the 10.0 inch top. I went back to the store and bought a 1/2 x 10 foot rope and that made it happen.

The string is of a good length for me,  I try to get a good throw to the ground .  Works !
it's also a bit thicker.
I'm sure it will work , and with all of you , I can do it!

Cecil is right.  Your arm motion is very short.  That is to say you stop with your hand in front of your body.  This means you don't have much motion left to pull back smoothly.  Use a long, full forward motion from the shoulder with your arm a bit straighter.  Then when you pull back, you have your full range arm motion available.  In time you will learn when, how high and how fast to pull back for various tops and various throw styles. Like High Arc, Short to non throwing hand, Long flight to a friend that catches, and so on.

Taking a break from the big ones,  for now.
All my other tops work perfect to boomerang!
I got a great time just now,  while practicing target  im getting good!
Got a crazy idea,  but that's another topic.
