Winter Storms
« on: February 01, 2011, 09:29:46 AM »

Although I'm not affected, I did see this when I came into work today (we have affiliate offices in Jefferson City):

A massive snow and ice storm is hitting Missouri, and Jefferson City is being hit particularly hard by the storm. The Governor of Missouri has declared a state of emergency, and mandated that no vehicles are allowed on the streets. The storm is a mixture of ice and snow, with snow accumulation of 15 – 20” expected by mid-day today. Winds are blowing at 25-35 mph, creating drifts of up to 5-5 ft.

Bundle up Chris  :D

School is off most everywhere is southwest Ohio.  We have a seriously slick coat of ice on everything!  It was tricky trying to get the dog to go to the bathroom and down the steps into the backyard.

It sounds like this storm is hitting major portions of the US!

Winter has arrived. Today it is cold and windy. The forecast says that there is a 30% chance of snow on Friday. Since I am in San Antonio only once I saw flurries. This past Sunday we were walking in the evening at the River Walk in short sleeves and having ice cream.

Yeah, it's snowing like crazy here.  I went to work this morning, my new boss would have come got me on his tractor if I couldn't make it in myself.  All-wheel drive Honda Elements ROCK!  Anyway, at lunch the bossman took a little spin in his truck, came back and told us all to go home... if we could make it  ;D

30 inches expected for us now  ;D

Snow and ice!!! The world is going under ;D
It is always funny to read about snow in places where they do not usually have a lot of snow and everything stops.
I bike to work every day on ice with spiked tires.

Do you really, Rusty?  That is awesome.  I have never seen a bike with spiked tires.  That reminds me of the days in the 1950's when I was growing up and my grandma used to put chains on her car tires for the winter.

Do you have two bikes, one for the summer and one for the winter or do you change your tires?

Wow! Biking on the ice is completely foreign to me.
Rusty, have you tried a whip top in the ice?

Was it, is it, your birthday? You did not enter the date in your profile. Regardless, you ARE a sorcerer with tops.

Report from Chicago:  Schools closed yesterday, today and maybe tomorrow; 20+ inches on the ground with a few more inches predicted; if it passes 23" it's a record single day snow fall for this area.  Last night we had 50+ mph winds; part of Wrigley Field's roof blew off.....Our alley has 3 - 4 feet of snow, and on the Green there are 10 foot drifts!
