Old Tricks New Dog
« on: January 10, 2011, 08:01:37 PM »

So I am very happy with the way this one plays, it's a fixed tip and weighs in at 67g the recycled Bulldog lid is pressure fit .On the next one I will try to get the pitch of the tip more true to the original design. But this one plays so well I didn't want to mess with it too much In the meantime I will be rummaging through my boxes of spare parts looking for more bulldog lids, I know I broke at least a dozen of them and I hope I saved em all. :-\

Number 2 looks great!
I assume it is hollowed out.

You should never throw away a bulldog cap: they are really handy (like closing the HPs)!

so... pool balls are spheres, an you can't hold a sphere in a jaw chuck (or can you?) so how are you guys getting started?  Cut a flat spot with a ban saw, sand flat, glue it to somehting?

At first I thought this thread was perfect for me.  Then I looked closer and realized it wasn't talking about old dogs.

Anyway, nice job mtntop!

The way I do it is to start with the pool ball between centers; right up against the spindle on the headstock side, and I use a cup-end tip on my bearing tailstock on the other side.  Then, I turn a spigot on one end of the ball (about 1 1/2" in diameter and 1/4" tall) which I can then grip with pin jaws on my chuck.

Hope that helps..... :)

Nice Joe!

I drilled mine first and held it from the inside, but I'm thinking I'll try something new next time...
